Community Links runs a wide range of community projects for over 16,000 people each year. Based in East London, the charity has almost 40 years of experience working in one of the most deprived areas in the UK. The dedicated staff (40% of which are former service users or volunteers) help local people to support children, young people, adults and families in bringing about social change. They tackle some of the most complex and difficult issues facing communities today - including severe financial hardship, housing problems and learning difficulties.
We have been a long-standing partner of Community Links through corporate donations, fundraising activities and employee volunteering.
Dame Kelly Trust
The Dame Kelly Trust helps young people facing disadvantages with programmes that empower them to live positive lives. They reach out to care leavers, homeless people, young offenders, women at risk of sexual exploitation and those living within isolated communities. Their programmes are delivered by Trust trained world class athletes. In 2017, the Janus Henderson Foundation donated money to the Dame Kelly Trust and continue to identify ways to support their overall mission.
RedSTART is a financial education initiative for young people. The goal of the organisation is to put people in control of their finances, giving them the skills they need to successfully and sustainably manage their financial futures from a young age. They work with young people between 8 and 18 years of age from a wide variety of schools and locations across the UK. RedSTART was created by three employees from Redington, an investment consulting firm, and now counts some of the world's largest financial firms as RedSTART partners.
We will continue to leverage our employees to offer RedSTART Financial Education Days at our London office.
Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC)
The DEC brings 13 leading UK aid charities together in times of crisis: Action Aid, Age International, British Red Cross, CAFOD, Care International, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Islamic Relief, Oxfam, Plan UK, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision; all collectively raising money to reach those in need quickly. They have run 69 appeals and raised more than £1.4 billion since their launch in 1963 - helping to save millions of lives and rebuild communities devastated by disasters.
Janus Henderson has committed to donate up to £10,000 to each of the DEC appeals. In 2017 we donated £20,000.
Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust
The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is a national organisation that takes young people aged between 8-24 sailing to help them regain confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illnesses. In 2013, they launched a three-year plan to double the amount of young people in recovery from cancer that they work with from 6% in to 14.2% by 2016, whilst ensuring that the quality of their work remains at a high standard and every young person gets as much out of their time with the Trust as possible.
We have supported the Ellen MacArthur Trust since early 2014 through participation in the City Yacht Club (CYC) Charity Sailing Regatta. The CYC Sailing Regatta has over 30 years of history in the asset management industry. Pre-2008, the event was used as a marketing tool. However, after a five-year hiatus, the CYC Regatta was re-launched as an event to develop Investment 2020 Trainees and to raise money for and awareness of worthwhile charities.
KickStart Money is a ground-breaking collaborative project that aims to take financial education to over 18,000 primary school children, catalysing a movement to build a national savings culture for the future. Significant proportions of the UK population lack the basic functional skills and knowledge to effectively manage their money. KickStart Money has been developed as a mechanism for the financial services industry to proactively and collectively transform the long term savings behaviour of a generation. With a shared aim of raising over £1 million, KickStart Money is a serious statement of intent by the savings and investment industry and supports calls for financial education to become a compulsory element of the Primary National Curriculum. KickStart Money’s prime delivery partner will be the highly respected and award winning financial education charity, MyBnk.
Janus Henderson Investors is one of sixteen of Britain’s leading savings and investment firms, brought together by TISA, that are supporting KickStart Money.
In 2017, The Janus Henderson Foundation provided Spitalfields Music with a £10,000 grant to assist with programming. Spitalfields Music brings together world class artists and local people in one of the most unusual and creative corners of London. Drawing inspiration from the area, they produce an annual festival and run creative music projects throughout the year in the local community. In an area often seen to be full of challenges, Spitalfields Music focusses on music and its power to bring people together, change perspectives, engage the body, emotions and intellect and to spread energy.
The Lord Mayor Appeal
The Janus Henderson Foundation is excited to embark on a new endeavour with The Lord Mayor's Appeal – A Better City for All. This appeal is designed on four key pillars to build a city that is Inclusive, Healthy, Skilled and Fair for city employees and their family and friends, as well as those who live and work in neighbouring communities in London. They have partnered with three organisations, Place2Be, OnSide Youth Zone and Samaritans to help them address emotional and mental wellbeing and ensuring we are equipping the youth with the skills they need to be career ready.
This appeal is a great ways to build upon the existing initiatives such as:
- The Power of Diversity
- This is Me in the City
- City Giving Day
- Green Ribbon
As a partner, we have commitment to providing a minimum of £10,000 for the next three years to support this community initiative.
